Pablo Picasso – part 1

Pablo Picasso is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century, an artistic genius who managed to reach the Top. LeedsHe was the creator of cubism and collage, two styles that influenced painter generations that followed until this day. He is known to all for his works, his unique style and his lead. While his art initially seemed very complicated, the subjects of his works were usually very simple, such as peace, love, life and death, everyday life and the nature of people. With his style he managed to make them understandable to the people and been remember no matter how much time will pass. While Picasso was first and foremost a painter, he also worked with small ceramic and bronze sculptures, and even wrote poems.

 

Although he is considered one of the pioneers of the modern movement, the number of different styles that characterize his work makes it difficult to classify him in a particular stream. Picasso is one of the most prolific painters of all time. For these reasons, numerous of his works are divided into periods:

LeedsThe Blue Period (1901-1904) is characterized by the use of blue and blue-green tones, emotional issues and subjects like prostitutes, beggars and artists.

LeedsIn the Pink Period (1904-1906) dominate the Earth and pink tones and a more optimistic mood, while the main themes are the acrobats and Harlequins.

LeedsIn the African period (1906-1909) the forms are influenced by African objects and evolve leading to cubism (Demoiselles d’ Avignon).

 

 

 

LeedsAnalytical Cubism (1909-1912) is the technique developed along with Georges Braque in which the objects are broken down into basic shapes.

 

LeedsIn Synthetic Cubism (1912-1919) they used the collage technique to synthesize forms using pieces of paper.

From 1920 onwards his work is characterized by a shift in classicism and surrealism, sculpturing and using mixed techniques at the last years of his life.
